What is UJALA Scheme?

The National Program of the Government of India- Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA) i.e. subsidized LED for all (UJALA) by Unnat Jyoti was started recently from Bhopal. The program is being implemented by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture state-owned company of the Ministry of Power. The LED-based Home Efficient Lighting Program (Domestic Efficient Lighting Program-DELP) has been named 'UJALA'.

Initially, the UJALA scheme is being fully operationalized in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Uttarakhand. Many more states and union territories will join this scheme.

The UJALA scheme was earlier launched with the name “Domestic Skilled Lighting Programme”. This scheme announced by Prime Minister Modi has now been restarted with a new name. This scheme is also an initiative to provide more benefits to the consumers than before, in which LED light bulbs will be given to the people at low prices so that they can take advantage of this scheme. The main objective of this Prime Minister's scheme is to motivate about 200 million consumers of normal bulbs towards the use of LED light bulbs, which will save about 10.5 billion kWh across the country.

Highlights of UJALA Yojana- Free LED Light Bulb Scheme:-

The government is giving cheap LED light bulbs under this scheme.

It is one of the first and strongest measures taken by the Central Government to promote the use of efficient light bulbs.

The purpose of this scheme is also to protect the environment.

Under this scheme, the applicant will be given LED light bulb at subsidized prices. Due to which an LED light bulb will be provided to you at less than 40% of the market price.

Both the state and central governments have joined hands to make the UJALA scheme a success.

Earlier a similar scheme was launched, but now it has been revived with the UJALA scheme.

What is the main objective of the UJALA Yojana - Free LED Light Bulb Program?

To promote the use of LED bulbs, hence it is being made available at cheaper rates than the market price. This means that if you buy an LED bulb through this plan, you will get it at a much cheaper rate than the market. Presently, the market rate of a common household LED bulb is around Rs.160. But under this scheme, you will get it only for Rs 85. It should also be noted that these bulbs are available in 9w. In addition, all bulbs purchased under this program have a 3-year replacement warranty.

How to apply for Ujala Yojana?

An official website is available to apply for UJALA Yojana. You can download the application form from http://www.ujala.gov.in/, you can submit it to the authorities after filling it. Additional information will be available to you from the DISCOM office.

What are the documents required for Ujala Yojana?

To take advantage of this program, you can provide one of the following documents-

Passports may give you an electricity or phone bill, to provide proof of your address.
