Aadhar card is one of the most important documents which can be used for various useful purposes. The 12 digit Unique Identification Number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has now become an important identity document as it contains your demographic and biometric data.

Here's what you need to know before opting for your child's Aadhaar enrollment

UIDAI has listed some very important points to enroll your child for Aadhaar card. Here are the key points.

It is not mandatory to fill in the Father, Mother, Spouse, Spouse and Guardian fields for residents above the age of 5, unless the adult is present or does not wish to disclose. All things considered, select the "Not Gave" checkbox "Corresponding to Occupant".

UIDAI says that if the child is below 5 years of age, the name and Aadhaar number of either parent or guardian must be mandatorily enrolled.

However, 'It is not mandatory to enter only father's name as opposed to mother's name.' Mother's name can be entered only in the name of 'Guardian Guardian' if the parent so desires.

Prior enrollment of the parent is mandatory for the child. If the father, mother or guardian of the child has not enrolled or has not carried the Aadhaar number at the time of enrolment, the child cannot be enrolled.

How to Apply for Aadhaar Card or Bal Aadhaar Card for Children

Applying for Aadhaar card for children is similar to the process followed for adults. You will need to fill an application form available at the enrollment centre, which are Proof of Identity (POI), Proof of Address (POA), Proof of Relationship (POR) and Date of Birth (DOB) documents. UIDAI acknowledges 31 POI and 44 POA, 14 POR and 14 DOB archives.
